Issues
Crime
Crime is a plague that infects everyone in the City of Houston, even those in District A. Crime destroys neighborhoods, communities, homes and families. I will work with neighborhood organizations, community watch groups, the Houston Police Department and all other law enforcement agencies that patrol District A to address the safety of all citizens. Increased collaboration between these agencies and our community members is one of my top priorities.
Infrastructure
Houston is a historic city with a great past; a past that has led us to become a strong metropolis. But sometimes our city’s age can show. To keep Houston strong, the infrastructure needs to be sound. Sewer and water lines need to be maintained; those with aging systems cannot be left to fend for themselves. I want to ensure that Houston continues to thrive, so that Houston’s future is as promising as its past..
Area Development
Not only is District A a great place to live, it also offers a terrific home for businesses. Bringing in new and stable businesses to District A is the best way to ensure its strength and growth. I want to see our District grow and flourish by working not only to strengthen the businesses already here, but to also bring renewed interest and new businesses to our area.
Area Beautification
Area beautification is essential. The way the District looks not only shows community pride, but can also attract new residents and businesses. Just to name a few areas of needed improvement: (1) the parks need to be maintained; (2) graffiti needs to be removed; and (3) the esplanades need to be tended. As a lifelong member of District A, I believe it is time to restore the beauty that it inherently holds.
Environment
We all love our city and should take responsibility in caring for it. I will work with community leaders, environmental experts and all others who can help make Houston as green as possible. By expanding our recycling program, educating Houstonians to the multitude of energy efficient ideas, and encouraging people to take advantage of already available opportunities, we can make certain that Houston remains a clean beautiful place to live for generations to come.
